Flashback: Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games

Usain Bolt, Tartan & Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – Glasgow 2014 had it all!

In late 2012 RGS Events were fortunate enough to secure the contract to Sponsor, Project Manage and Supply the FF&E at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. This began what was two truly incredible years, living and working in the amazing city of Glasgow.

If you speak to anyone involved in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, they will all tell you that it was a special event to be a part of.

Following hot on the heels of the uber successful London 2012 Olympic Games was no easy feat. London had just delivered what many regarded as the greatest Olympic Games of all time.

However thanks to the hard work and dedication from a fantastic Organising Committee. Glasgow delivered an inclusive, highly entertaining, and incredibly executed event.

A lot of the FF&E supplied had been previously used at the London 2012 Olympics, stored in containers, and shipped up to Grangemouth port to be re-used at Glasgow 2014. This helped deliver a sustainable outcome not usually possible, thanks to the proximity in terms of location and timing of the two events.

Those who worked on the event and spectators alike, won’t forget witnessing one of sport’s greatest ever athletes take to the field. Usain Bolt flew into Glasgow and in trademark style and pizzaz helped deliver gold for Jamaica in the 4x100 on an unforgettable night at Hampden Park that those who were lucky to witness it will never forget.

Whether it was the sporting moments, the amazing atmosphere and vibe of the city or the unusually lovely Scottish weather, Glasgow and it’s people delivered.

This was an event that we are incredibly proud to have been involved in and we hope to see another Commonwealth Games in Scotland one day.
