Flashback: Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games

In early 2017 RGS Events was awarded the contract as the official FF&E Provider to the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in another Commonwealth Games in our own backyard, following on from our engagement in the last Australian Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2006.

While we love the international nature of our industry and the amazing opportunities that allow us to move around the world from event to event, there is always something special about a project back home.

And so our team packed their high vis jackets and flip flops and headed up North to the wonderful Gold Coast, the city that gets 300 days of sunshine a year.

GC2018 was a project that really allowed us to express ourselves through product design. The FF&E that we supplied was some of the most creative, colourful and engaging of any project that we have been a part of.

Testament to the LOOK team at GC2018 for wanting to go all out with their use of colour, as this allowed us to work together to deliver an amazing Athlete’s Village and Venue product. In spaces as varied as Games Rooms, Salons, Alfresco Dining and Press Centres, the FF&E was fun, vibrant, and worked to enhance the Athlete experience within these areas.

FF&E can sometimes be simplified down to “it’s just tables and chairs” but GC2018 showed that by incorporating design throughout the FF&E within a project, it can really bring life into spaces.

We loved working with the GC2018 Team and especially having the opportunity for our team to be embedded within the Logistics, Material Planning and Villages Teams for the project. Fingers crossed we are lucky enough to see another Commonwealth Games in Australia in 2026.
